The Washington DC Alumni Chapter exists to support the mission of the National Alumni Association and serves the community of Shaw University alumni, students, and friends by providing lifelong connections to Shaw University.
Primary Goals and Objectives:
- Coordinate local alumni activities and events in support of Shaw University
- Provide social and career networking opportunities for alumni and friends
- Promote membership in the National Alumni Association
- Serve as an official contact for the National Alumni Association and University
Shaw University, founded in 1865, is the first historically black college of the South. Shaw is a private, co-educational, liberal arts university affiliated with the Baptist Church. The University awards degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The primary mission of the University is teaching with the commitment to maintain excellence in research and academic programs that foster intellectual enhancement and technological skills. Additionally, the University stresses character development, which includes religious, cultural, social, and ethical values. Ultimately, Shaw University endeavors to graduate students with demonstrated competencies in their chosen fields of study.
